Earlier this morning the phone rang, we have call display and there was a pit in my stomach the moment I saw that it was the school bus company. I answered the phone thinking that I was going to hear about Calvin hitting, kicking, spitting, being rude, something along those lines but no it was none of those things. The bus driver was calling to let me know that I should be expecting a call from the schools because the children missed the bus this morning ( there was no reason to miss the bus they left in plenty of time to make it to the end of the driveway). They missed the bus this morning but instead of coming back to tell us they missed the bus they decided to walk to school along the HIGHWAY, a major highway where cars are driving past at 100km/h and anyone could of stopped and taken them to god only knows where.
Luckily for me another bus came by and picked them up and took them to school, ( I am still giggling) and I am sure she lectured them along the way about how unsafe it is to try to walk to school. Now I must take some credit for this little escapade because we have threatened to make them walk if they miss the bus and so I guess they decided I would be mad and so they best start walking.
But oh my goodness walking along the highway all the way to school, it's a few km away and I can't even imagine how long it would of taken them to get there and I had no idea. I tried to explain to the bus driver who called that really I understood the serious nature of her call and I would talk to them because it was a safety concern and such but since I could not stop laughing I don't think she believed me.
Both of the principals have also called, one acting as though we had encouraged them to jump off a bridge and the other laughed and said that he used to say the same thing to his kids but no one ever took him seriously. He also mentioned that although Fudge seemed to understand why the adults where concerned he noticed a little glimmer in Calvin's eye - there is a reason I call him Calvin here.
Those monkeys keep me on my toes, that and the fact that our annual christmas tree party is this weekend and there are 85 people coming over to my house!
PS I will not joke with my children about walking to school anymore
PPS I will also not joke about a whole lot of other things any longer!
